Across the country, schools are celebrating the incredible work of teachers. At Democracy Prep, we endeavor to celebrate you and your impact every day, but we do take special pride in truly leaning in to celebrate you this week.
Our motto, and our mission, would be impossible without you. Our teachers are in the front of classrooms all day, every day, transforming our scholars’ lives. They are surrounded by scholars at kidney tables, reading rugs and recess.
For many kids across the country, it is our teachers who see the special spark in us that allow us to be the best versions of ourselves. Seeing us thrive in language may lead us to speech and debate, a flair for the dramatic has a home in our theatre departments, and our athletes find their confidence on the court. Whatever lights the academic fire in our kids likely comes from you and your attention to our scholars.
And yet, for all of my years in schools, I am unable to find adequate words to express my gratitude, and the gratitude of our entire network, for all that our teachers do. And so, I want to leave you with a quote from the educator and philosopher Paulo Freire that I believe reflects Democracy Prep’s teachers.
“What the educator does in teaching is to make it possible for the students to become themselves.”
Thank you for giving every scholar a school in which they can be themselves.
With Respect and Admiration,
